I called by to see Joe at the infirmary, took him an
old NME from the glam-rock days,
But the ghost propped up on pillows must be just Joe�s
shadow,
And there�s no way back to any safe place
And I'm twirling in deep space alone,

So I kill some time in a second-hand bookstore
Run by this albino guy with a head shaped like a
Hallowe�en pumpkin.
I stand at the window watching the wind rolling a Coke
can.
I came across this postcard --- I slipped it in my bag

Of a squad of GIs raising that Iwo Jima flag.
But I left it lying in some bar ��
